NOTES: After serving twenty two months, five on active service where he contracted malaria, John requested a discharge to assist his ailing father in the management of his 264 acre dairy farm. They milked one hundred cows and also raised and fattened a large number of pigs. It was recommended that John receive a discharge “to resume civil employment.”
